Mr Jean-Marie Quimper

With great sorrow and affection, we bid farewell to Mr. Jean-Marie (John) Quimper, our dad, grand-père, brother, uncle, and friend of Edmonton, formerly of Medicine Hat, Alberta. We announce his unexpected passing on January 2, 2024, at the age of 85 years. John was born on May 9, 1938, in Baie-des-Sables, Quebec. His career comprised of 20 years working in the Canadian Air Force which took him and his family to various bases across Canada. After retiring from the Air Force, his career took him to Honeywell in Calgary for 14 years. When he retired, he continued to work part time as a security guard at the Armed Forces base and with RCMP as photo radar in Medicine Hat. He enjoyed being active with golfing, traveling, and being with his family who were very important to him. He also volunteered at the humane society working as a dog walker, which he enjoyed thoroughly. He is survived by his children Lesa (Lorne), Dianne (Terry), and Denise (Kevin). He is also survived by his grandchildren Sheldon, Steven, Hannah (Michael), and Brett. Jean-Marie was pre-deceased by parents, Albert and Marie-Ange Quimper, siblings Roland, Gilles, and Roger. Survived by siblings Jeannine, Raymond (Diane), Benoit (Maxine), Armand (Ginette), Bertrand (Nicole), and Claude. As per John’s wishes, he has been cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at Chartwell Heritage Residence, 944 James Mowatt Trail, Edmonton on February 11, 2024. Then a private service will be held later in John’s hometown of Baie-des-Sables, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to any Animal Rescue Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Condolences, as well as photos, and memories may be shared through Hainstock Funeral Home website. Our family wishes to thank the staff at Chartwell Heritage Villas residence, who became dad’s second family over the 4 years he lived there. Staff were an instrumental part of his care and support. Staff always went the extra mile and checked on him when one of us was concerned about dad. Our family would also like to thank AHS case manager Marianne who provided her expertise in creating the best care for dad. An acknowledgment of thanks to the staff and Dr. Bussière (GNH, Unit 52) who called every day when he was covering physician to provide updates on dad’s status. A special thanks to Aunt Lorraine (Roger) who has provided support and kind words for dad and daughters over the years. Our family thanks everyone who has offered their support during this difficult time. If dad was here, he would show his appreciation with his mischievous half smile and lift his glass of wine and say…. À ta santè.
