Craig Erik Markham

Craig passed away peacefully in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 72, after many years with complex health issues. Predeceased by his parents Esther (Thoen) and William Markham. Craig will be tragically missed by his wife Heather Markham (nee Iles) of almost 50 years, daughter Erika (Chris Marshall) Mexico, son Jonathon (Stephanie Rindt) Vancouver, daughter Lyn {Scotlen} (Ilara Stefaniuk-Gaudet) Edmonton, and sister Jill (James Peck) Ottawa and grandchildren Elliot, Lea (Vancouver) and Alice, Chance (Mexico) as well as many extended family (Florence Linden (Thoen), Cathy Iles-Cavan, Lynn Iles-Bell, Larry Iles and nieces and nephews: Trevor, Brad, Zander, Grace, Rachel, Hailey, Shauna) and friends near and far. Craig was a graphic designer throughout his career with a specialty in packaging design. He volunteered for many years as a director and coach of the Knights of Columbus North Hockey Club. Heather was the love of Craig’s life and he looked forward to seeing her every day. He missed her greatly when she wasn’t in sight. On retirement, Heather and Craig travelled to see their grandchildren whenever they could. They spent many hours in companionship sitting on their deck enjoying their garden while Heather painted and Craig caught up on the hockey scores. Craig cherished his time with his grandchildren watching them grow, giving them big hugs, and playing together. He especially loved spending time with his adult children: Erika to provide support to, always, and share in like-minded activities; long chats making memories with Jonathon while he gently played guitar; and Lyn who he welcomed into the family as a trans femme - they shared a passion for creating and making projects together. Lyn provided constant care and compassion during the last few months of Craig’s life. He will be sadly missed and remembered for all of the happy times, and for his dedication to supporting youth hockey as well as being a huge Edmonton Oilers fan. Thank you to Dr. Rania Bedaba and the nurses on Unit 41 of the Royal Alexandra Hospital for their care and compassion. A Celebration of Craig’s Life will be held at a later date.
